NMRL Hosts Sports Medicine Seminar

The NMRL recently hosted the Sports Medicine Seminar featuring keynote speaker Dr. Maurizio Bertoni. Dr. Bertoni, an honorary guest visiting from Florence, Italy, holds an Adjunct Professorship in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh, he is an Affiliated Professor at the Exercise Science School, University of Florence, and Director of Training Lab. Dr. Bertoni is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and an orthopaedic consultant for the Fiorentina Soccer team, Bisonte Volley team, and I Cavalieri Prato Rugby team. He is also part of the medical team for the Italian Federation of Rugby.

The seminar took place on May 12, 2014 at the NMRL Conference Center and was attended by invited faculty and staff and alumni from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Lectures consisted of Dr. Maurizio Bertoni’s “Florence-City of Science and Humanism”, “History of Neuromuscular Research Laboratory: 1990-present”, presented by Dr. Scott Lephart, Dr. Kevin Conley presented the “History of Athletic Training and NATA”, “NMRL/UPitt Injury Prevention Research” by Dr. Tim Sell, and “NMRL/DOD Research Initiative” presented by Dr. John Abt.

This event, in conjunction with Dr. Bertoni’s visit, is significant in fostering the dynamic partnership between the NMRL/University of Pittsburgh and the Training Lab/University of Florence. The partnership between these institutions aims to continually grow in the future.
