Shawn Flanagan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh. His background is in systems neuroscience and physiology with specialized training in brain stimulation, imaging, and biochemistry. At the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Flanagan’s research is focused on the neurobiological basis of injury prevention and human performance optimization. Current areas of interest include the influence of the brain/cognition on injury, effects of biomarkers on injury and performance adaptations, psychological resilience, and novel clinical rehabilitation techniques for return to duty/play from musculoskeletal and head injuries. Dr. Flanagan is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American College of Sports Medicine, and Endocrine Society.
