Director Receives $2.5M in Department of Defense Funding

The NMRL has received funding from the Department of Defense to study cognitive resilience in Soldiers during simulated military operational stress. NMRL Director Bradley C. Nindl is co-principal investigator on the study with Anne Germain, PhD, of the Military Sleep Tactics and Resilience Research Program in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The testing protocol will follow Soldiers over a comprehensive 5-day testing protocol that includes physiological, neurocognitive, psychomotor, sensorimotor, tactical and sleep testing. Internal co-investigators from the NMRL include Chris Connaboy, Shawn Flanagan, Mita Lovalekar, Qi Mi, and Brian Martin. Nindl and Germain have partnered with several external collaborators, as well: Peter Roma of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Michael Dretsch of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Amy Haufler of Johns Hopkins University, Matthew Tenan of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Caroline Davis and Caroline Mahoney of the Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center, Harris Lieberman of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Carl Castro of the University of Southern California and Jacque Reifman of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command.
