Doctoral Student Receives Award


Major Will Conkright was recently selected for the Mary Lipscomb Hamrick (MLH) Research Award for his abstract titled, “Energy Expenditure and Load Carriage Exceeded Military Recommendations in Special Operations Forces Deployed to Afghanistan”.  COL Lipscomb Hamrick was the first U.S. Army dietitian to earn a doctorate degree. An annual research conference and award has been established in her name for the Army Medical Specialist Corps.  This is considered a lifetime achievement award for the research community. Selection for this award is based on demonstrated accomplishments and contributions in research and clinical investigation. 

Will is an active duty Army dietitian and currently a doctoral student researcher at the University of Pittsburgh’s Neuromuscular Research Lab.  He received his Masters in Nutrition from Baylor University in 2010.  His most recent assignment was as the Command Human Performance Dietitian for U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
