Maria Canino, MS, CSCS

Maria is a doctoral student researcher in the Sports Medicine and Nutrition program within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Science. Prior to enrolling in the doctoral program, she was an ORISE Research Fellow supporting the Military Performance Division at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. Maria earned both her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and master's degree in Exercise Physiology at Illinois State University. During her graduate work, she served as a Laboratory Graduate Assistant in the Exercise Physiology Laboratory as well as a graduate teaching assistant. Her research interests include understanding the bidirectional relationship between the brain and body to characterize the maladaptive neuroplastic alterations as a result of musculoskeletal injury using non-invasive brain stimulation and neuroimaging techniques.
